Dear Members and Friends of St. Paul’s,
Through the month of September, it has been nice to see a return to our music ministries, Bible studies, and Sunday school. The Youth Group has also started up for the fall, with a car wash and their first gathering for the season. They are preparing for their trip to the ELCA Youth Gathering next summer in Minneapolis.
Especially as vacation season has ended and we are returning to our regular programming, we have a few needs. As I mentioned last month, we are in need of a manager for the Memorial Garden. There is more information about that in this issue of the Chimes. Additionally, we are seeking a chair for the Property Committee.
The Handbells Ensemble has lost some members over the last couple years and they would love to welcome more ringers to their group. If you are interested in learning or finding out more, reach out to Ed Robertson. Someone once told me, “If you can count to four, you can ring a bell!” While there is a bit more skill than that involved, beginners are always welcome.
Our most pressing needs are for your support and participation. I am so thankful for those that volunteer to help in all different ways. Recently on our property, volunteers have weeded and mulched the memorial garden, planted bulbs out front, and leveled the soil near the handicapped parking. Lawn mowing volunteers have been busy all summer caring for our property. Additionally, there are those that bake desserts for Mt. Nebo, donate and deliver food to Extended Hand Ministries, and provide donations for our school supply and other drives throughout the year. Members have volunteered to host fellowship and prepare funeral luncheons. Others visit our hospitalized and homebound members and bring Communion. A variety of committees meet and organize the various ministries of the church. Others lead Sunday school, or participate in our Christian Education. Some join in our music ministries. Worship assistants and altar guild serve each week at both Sunday services. We are especially in need of volunteers to serve at the 5:00pm service. There are countless other ways that people volunteer, and all of them are valuable and appreciated. If you are looking for a way to get involved, please know that there is a place for you here at St. Paul’s.
In addition to your presence and participation, your financial support of our ministry is also greatly appreciated. In a time of rising costs, many households are struggling to be as generous as they once were. People have had to cut back on their household expenses, but we have also experienced decreased giving to the church. If you find yourself in a position to increase your giving or make a special gift, you would help to ensure that St. Paul’s remains a place where people can worship and hear the word of God in prayer, song, praise and proclamation.
However you choose to be involved in the life of St. Paul’s, I am thankful for your presence and prayers. If there is anything I can do to better support you in your ministry or if you are in need pastoral care, please reach out to me.
I look forward to seeing you in worship and working together in ministry!
Peace,
Rev. Jessica Hahn
